Akari is currently 17, so I doubt the photographer is responsible for making her look young. Most idols start their careers while they are in middle/high school, so naturally they will be photographed in school uniforms a lot (see bottom right corner). The age of consent in Japan is 13, so they are not "underage" by Japanese standards. Moreover, many idols retire from entertainment by 20+/-, whereas only a fraction take up acting or music as a long-term profession, so it is expected that idol photos will be disproportionately young - there are simply more of them at that age!

Anyway, I would love to see you comment more on idols.

Can someone please explain to me why with nearly all Japanese chicks they are dressed up (down?) and photographed in such a way that they look significantly underage? I have an issue with it which is why I rarely go to or comment on them.
